The joint venture led by OpenMove (Lucian S.r.l.), together with Vifram S.r.l., has been awarded the concession to design, build and operate the New Trentino Transport Platform (NPTT), tendered by the Autonomous Province of Trento through the provincial procurement agency APAC (Agenzia provinciale per gli Appalti e i Contratti). The procedure, a project financing tender, originated from a proposal submitted by Almaviva with AEP Ticketing Solutions, long-standing operators of ticketing and fleet monitoring systems in Trentino. The contract was awarded on the basis of the most economically advantageous tender: within this framework, the OpenMove–Vifram offer received the full technical score from the evaluation committee.

The stronger technical evaluation of OpenMove’s offer is precisely what made the difference in the award.

Indeed, the committee rewarded the offer across all discretionary technical criteria. Among the elements judged as improvements: contactless EMV payment across the entire fleet; Account-Based ticketing on an integrated MaaS platform, and innovative sales channels such as Chat&Go® and Scan&Go.

NPTT will manage ticketing, fares, multichannel sales and validation on board and at stations, together with service shift and timetable planning and fleet monitoring (AVM), gradually replacing the systems currently in use. It is the digital infrastructure of Trentino’s public transport: it allows passengers to pay, validate and buy tickets, and allows the operator to plan the service, manage fares and sales channels, and track vehicles in real time.

In terms of size and scope, it is among the largest tenders published in Italy in recent years for a public transport ticketing and management platform. The system will serve one of the largest and most heterogeneous fleets in the country: over 700 buses, 25 trains and 200 station validators operated by Trentino Trasporti.

Beyond designing and building the platform, the joint venture will handle its installation and maintenance for the full duration of the concession: on-board and station hardware, software, and the gradual replacement of the current systems.

“The NPTT is an opportunity to give Trentino an open and modern ticketing system: contactless payments for everyone, account-based ticketing, and a platform that brings together sales, validation and data. We will work to make the transition from the current systems gradual and without disruption,”                                                               says Lorenzo Modena, CEO of OpenMove.
